AIFA was formed after the acquisition of the former Cape Flying Services during April 2011. AIFA is backed by AVIC-International, a large scale state-owned conglomerate with aviation products and technology import and export as its core business. Headquartered in Beijing, AVIC-International has 7 specialized companies and 10 regional subsidiaries in China and 56 overseas branches worldwide. With its total assets of up to RMB 24 billion and accumulated import and export volume of US $24 billion thus far, AVIC-International ranks among the first 20 of China’s top 500 enterprises for import and export. Test Flying Academy of South Africa (TFASA) is our other shareholder, a company with long and successful business relationships with AVIC-International and COMAC in China.

AIFA is a modern and high-tech flight training academy equipped with a fleet of brand new aircraft and simulators. Our single engine fleet consist of Piper 161 Warrior and Cessna 172 Skyhawk aircraft while the first two of a fleet new Piper Seminole aircraft were also delivered during July 2012. AIFA currently operates form three training bases and each base will be equipped with 20 single engine and 5 multi-engine aircraft as the business continue to expand. All aircraft are fitted with Garmin 500 or Garmin 1000 glass cockpits giving cadets exposure to the most modern technology. Furthermore will each base be equipped with an FNPT 1 and FNPT 2 Simulator from Elite Simulation, Switzerland.

AIFA also offers High Performance training on a fleet of King Air C-90 aircraft.

Milestones in the development of EduWings

2009

January: Mr. Wuqing Xian, vice president of NUAA, visited AVIC-International to establish the possibility of co-operation in the field of aviation training.
June: Three Partners signed the “Investment Framework Agreement” based upon a study of opportunities.
July: NUAA and AVIC-International formed a delegation to visit Cape Flying Services in George, South Africa.
November: Three shareholders signed the “Joint Venture Agreement” and “The Articles of Joint Venture Company”.
December: The newly established Joint Venture Company (JVC) submitted the establishment application to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for approval.

2009

2010

February: JVC signed a “training contract” with 15 selected student pilots and sent them to CFS for a 12-month period of flight training, terminating in an instructor qualification. Some of these instructors are still serving at AIFA as flying instructors.
April: The registered name NUAA International Flying Academy (NAFA) was approved by the Industrial and Commercial Administration of NanJing.
May: NAFA is officially approved by CAAC.
July: NAFA receives its “Business Certificate” from the Industrial and Commercial Administration of Nanjing.

2010

2011

April: AVIC-International Holding Corporation and TFASA officially acquire the former Cape Flying Services based in George, South Africa.
April: Mr. Willem Marais is appointed as the CEO of AIFA (AVIC-International Flight Training Academy).
June: AIFA bases at George and Oudtshoorn are awarded official Part 141 ATO approval from SACAA.
November: AIFA receives its first 4 brand new Piper Warrior aircraft. 29 students from Beijing Capital Airlines arrive to start flying training.
December: AIFA is fully accredited by the CAAC (Civil Aviation Administration of China).

2011

2012-2014

AIFA receives a further 5 Piper Warriors, 5 Cessna 172SP’s and 2 Piper Seminoles. The second half of the year saw the installation of the first two Elite BITD and FNPT II simulators.
A further 4 Warriors, 6 Cessnas and 2 Seminoles are added to the fleet. AIFA buys its first King Air C90A for High Performance training.
AIFA increases its aircraft fleet by adding another 3 Warriors, 8 Cessnas and 3 Seminoles. Another 2 King Airs are acquired for HP training. At the end of the year the fleet totals 19 Cessna 172SP’s, 12 Warriors, 7 Seminoles, 3 King Airs as well as two older Cessna 172’s, a Piper Aztec, a Piper Arrow and a vintage Piper Apache dating from 1957.
